Listing validation by platform
Platform-specific listing requirements and how to pass validation.
Universal requirements
- SKU: A unique identifier for the product
- Title: Product name (length limits vary)
- Price: Must be greater than $0
- Quantity: Must be 0 or greater
- Images: At least one product image (strongly recommended)
Amazon requirements
- Title: Maximum 200 characters
- Description: Maximum 2000 characters
- Bullet points: Maximum 5 bullets, 500 characters each
- Images: Maximum 9 images
- SKU: Maximum 40 characters
- Brand: Required
- GTIN: Required for most categories (UPC, EAN, ISBN)
- Product type: Must match Amazon's product type taxonomy
Common Amazon errors:
- "Brand is required" → Add brand to your Shopify product
- "GTIN invalid" → Check the barcode format
- "Title exceeds maximum length" → Shorten to under 200 characters
Walmart requirements
- GTIN: Required for ALL products (no exceptions)
- Brand: Required
- Description: Required (cannot be empty)
- Images: At least one image required
- Category: Must be assigned to a Walmart category
Common Walmart errors:
- "GTIN is required" → Add a valid UPC/EAN barcode
- "Invalid GTIN format" → Ensure it's a valid 12 or 13-digit barcode
- "Category required" → Set up category mapping for the product type
eBay requirements
- Title: Maximum 80 characters
- Description: Required
- Category: Must be assigned to an eBay category
- Item specifics: Some categories require specific attributes
- Condition: Must be specified (New, Used, etc.)
Common eBay errors:
- "Title exceeds 80 characters" → Shorten the title
- "Missing required item specific" → Add the required attribute
- "Invalid category" → Select a valid eBay category
Etsy requirements
- Title: Clear, descriptive title
- Description: Required
- Who made it: Required (I did, a member of my shop, another company)
- What is it: Required (finished product, supply, etc.)
- When was it made: Required for handmade items
- Tags: Up to 13 tags for search
- Shipping profile: Required
Common Etsy errors:
- "Missing required attribute" → Fill in who/what/when fields
- "Shipping profile not found" → Set up shipping in Etsy first
TikTok Shop requirements
- Images: High-quality, square format recommended
- Category: Required
- Description: Clear product description
- Size chart: Required for apparel/footwear
Common TikTok errors:
- "Category required" → Select a TikTok category
- "Image quality insufficient" → Use higher resolution images
- "Size chart required" → Add size information for apparel
Validation preview
- Errors (red): Must be fixed before pushing
- Warnings (yellow): Recommended to fix, but push is allowed
