Holiday shipping deadlines FAQ

When is the last day to ship for the holidays?
It depends on the carrier and service you choose. As a rule of thumb, ground services need roughly a week of buffer before December 25 — typically around December 16–17 — while expedited and overnight options push the cutoff into the December 20–22 window. Always confirm against each carrier’s official annual notice, since exact dates move every year and can shift earlier in remote or rural delivery areas.
What is the difference between ground and express holiday deadlines?
Ground services (USPS Ground Advantage, UPS Ground, FedEx Ground) are the cheapest but have the earliest cutoffs because they take the longest in transit — miss them and you are forced into pricier expedited service. Express and overnight tiers (Priority Mail Express, UPS Next Day Air, FedEx Overnight) carry the latest ship-by dates, sometimes as close as December 22, but you pay a premium for that extra runway. The tracker lists both so you can pick the right trade-off per order.
Do carriers add peak surcharges during the holiday season?
Yes. UPS, FedEx, and USPS all apply peak or demand surcharges during the holiday window, usually from late October through mid-January, on top of standard rates. The amount varies by service, package size, and how much volume you ship. Because these surcharges change every season, the smart move is to pull a live rate before you commit to a service so the price you see already includes any active peak fees.
How should I display shipping deadlines to my customers?
The highest-converting approach is a visible cutoff banner on your storefront — for example, “Order by Dec 17 for delivery by Christmas with standard shipping.” Show it on product pages and at checkout, and update or remove it the moment each deadline passes so you never promise delivery you cannot meet. Tie the message to the carrier and service you actually use, and consider a countdown for the final 48 hours to drive last-minute urgency.

Beat the cutoff with the right service.

Compare live USPS, UPS, FedEx & DHL rates and transit times so you pick the service that still makes the deadline.
