Ship Dangerous Goods, Compliantly & Automatically

Classify hazardous materials, validate every shipment against the regulations, and auto-generate the declarations and labels you need — lithium batteries and all nine UN classes, for air, ground, and ocean. It all happens inside your shipping flow, the moment you buy a label.

Everything you need to ship hazmat — in one place

The breadth of a dedicated DG platform, built into the shipping tool you already use.

Automatic classification

Enter a UN number and we fill in the hazard class, packing group, and proper shipping name from the federal Hazardous Materials Table (2,400+ substances). Or let us suggest a classification straight from your product name.

A real compliance engine

Not just a form-filler. We validate watt-hours, lithium battery sections, the 2026 30%-state-of-charge rule, packing-group limits, passenger-aircraft eligibility, and class-to-class segregation — and flag what’s wrong before you ship.

Every document & label

IATA air Shipper’s Declarations, DOT 49 CFR ground papers, IMO multimodal ocean forms, and print-ready hazard labels + lithium battery marks for every class — generated for you.

Built into your shipping

The paperwork generates and validates the moment you buy a label, using the order, carrier, and destination you’re already shipping to. Non-compliant shipments are blocked before you spend money on a label.

SDS & recordkeeping

Attach Safety Data Sheets to your products, and keep an automatic audit trail of every declaration generated — version-stamped for recordkeeping.

Lithium-battery first

Purpose-built for the biggest e-commerce DG headache: e-bikes, e-scooters, power tools, electronics, and spare batteries — UN3480/3481/3090/3091 and the UN3556 vehicle entries.

Built for what you ship

If any of these are in your catalog, you’re shipping dangerous goods — and you need the paperwork right.

Lithium batteries, power banks & spare cells
E-bikes, e-scooters & other battery-powered vehicles
Electronics & devices with built-in batteries
Aerosols, sprays & compressed gases
Paints, solvents & other flammable liquids
Cleaners, acids & corrosives

Decision support for trained shippers

We’ll be straight with you: dangerous-goods software accelerates compliance, it doesn’t replace responsibility. Under 49 CFR and IATA regulations, the shipper is always legally responsible for proper classification and documentation, and DG documents must be handled by trained personnel. ShipWave gives you a fast, validated, version-traceable workflow — but the final call stays with a qualified shipper. Output is decision support, not a guarantee of compliance.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Hazmat & Compliance module do?
It classifies your dangerous-goods products, validates each shipment against the regulations, and automatically generates the required declarations and hazard labels — IATA for air, 49 CFR DOT for ground, and IMO for ocean. It runs inside your normal shipping flow, so the paperwork is ready the moment you buy a label.
Does this replace a dangerous-goods specialist?
No — and we’re upfront about that. The software is decision support for properly trained shippers. Under 49 CFR and IATA rules, the shipper is always legally responsible for the classification and documentation. We make that fast and far less error-prone, but a qualified, DG-trained person remains responsible for what ships.
Which dangerous goods does it cover?
All nine UN hazard classes, with the deepest support for lithium batteries (Class 9). Classes that require specialist authorization — explosives (1), infectious substances (6.2), and radioactive (7) — are intentionally flagged as “handle manually” rather than auto-processed.
How are lithium batteries handled?
We determine the correct UN number (UN3480/3481/3090/3091, or the UN3556/3557/3558 vehicle entries), the regulatory section, watt-hour limits, the 2026 30%-state-of-charge requirement for air, passenger-aircraft eligibility, and the required marks — then generate the declaration and labels.
How much does it cost?
The Hazmat & Compliance module is $19/month and includes unlimited DG declarations and labels. It’s an add-on to your ShipWave account.
Do I have to enter all the regulatory data myself?
No. Classifications auto-fill from the UN number using the federal Hazardous Materials Table, and we can suggest a classification from your product name. You confirm it — you don’t start from a blank form.
