How to use the ZIP code lookup

  1. Choose a search

Look up a ZIP code to see its place, state and county, or a city to see all of its ZIP codes.
  2. Enter the ZIP or the city

ZIP+4 codes are accepted. For cities, pick the state first; suggestions appear as you type.
  3. Use it on a label

Check that the city and ZIP on an address agree before you buy a shipping label; a mismatch is a common cause of delays.

ZIP code lookup FAQ

How do I find the city and county for a ZIP code?
Enter the five-digit ZIP code (a ZIP+4 works too) and choose Look up ZIP. You get the place name, state and county, the approximate center point, and nearby ZIP codes.
How do I find the ZIP codes for a city?
Choose City → ZIP codes, pick the state, type the city or town (suggestions appear as you type) and choose Find ZIP codes. Large cities have dozens of ZIP codes.
What is a ZIP+4 code?
The four digits after the hyphen narrow a ZIP code to a delivery segment such as a block face, building or PO box group. The five-digit ZIP is enough for this lookup; address verification returns the full ZIP+4.
Can a ZIP code cross county or state lines?
Yes. ZIP codes are mail delivery routes, not geographic areas, so some cover parts of two or more counties, and a few cross state lines. This lookup shows the primary county for each ZIP.
Are ZIP codes the same as Census ZCTAs?
No. ZIP Code Tabulation Areas (ZCTAs) are Census Bureau areas built to approximate ZIP codes for statistics. They are redrawn only with each census, and many PO-box-only and single-organization ZIP codes have no ZCTA.
Is this the official USPS ZIP code lookup?
No. It uses the public GeoNames postal code dataset and is not affiliated with the US Postal Service. For official address and ZIP+4 information, use the USPS website or an address verification service.
