Carriers
Regional carriers: OnTrac, LaserShip, Veho, LSO, Spee-Dee, GLS, CDL
Seven regional carriers integrated through ShipWave, with coverage maps, auto-displayed savings against UPS/FedEx, and per-carrier visibility toggles.
What are regional carriers
Regional carriers are independent ground delivery networks that operate in specific geographies. They typically beat UPS Ground and FedEx Home on price by 20-40% within their coverage zone, with comparable or faster transit times. The tradeoff: their coverage is partial, so you can't use them as your only carrier—they fill in where they're strong.
The seven carriers integrated
- OnTrac — West Coast (CA, OR, WA, NV, AZ, CO, UT, ID). Fastest growing.
- LaserShip — East Coast and Midwest (now merged with OnTrac as "OnTrac" nationally, but legacy LaserShip ID is still accepted).
- Veho — Major metros across the US. Strong on customer experience.
- LSO (Lone Star Overnight) — Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas.
- Spee-Dee Delivery — Upper Midwest (MN, WI, IA, ND, SD, IL).
- GLS US (formerly GSO) — California-focused with ground service to neighboring states.
- CDL (Capital Express) — Northeast metros, fast for last-mile.
Coverage maps
Each carrier's coverage is enforced at rate time—if your destination ZIP isn't in the carrier's service area, you don't see a rate. You can view a coverage map per carrier at Admin → Settings → Carriers, click the carrier name. Useful for planning warehouse locations and figuring out where you can lean on regionals vs national carriers.
Auto-savings display
When a regional carrier rate appears in the rate picker, ShipWave shows a small green tag next to it: "Saves $2.40 vs UPS Ground" or similar. The savings are computed in real time against the equivalent national carrier service for the same package and destination. Makes the case to use regionals obvious at glance.
Toggling carriers
Each carrier has a visibility toggle at Admin → Settings → Carriers. If you don't want to see Veho rates because you've had bad delivery experiences in your area, turn it off and it disappears from every rate picker, automation rule, and quick-ship screen. Turn it back on any time.
FAQs
Do I need separate contracts with each regional?
No. ShipWave provides commercial rates with every integrated carrier through our EasyPost partnership. No separate accounts, no separate billing.
Are regional carriers reliable?
It varies by region and time of year. OnTrac, Veho, and LSO have strong on-time records (95%+); LaserShip historically had quality issues but has improved post-merger. We surface on-time performance data per carrier in the rate picker hover.
Can I use regionals for residential and commercial?
All seven deliver residential. Most also deliver commercial within their zones, though pickup at commercial docks varies—check the carrier detail page.
What about pickup?
OnTrac and Veho offer scheduled pickup in their major metros. The others are drop-off at a hub. For drop-off carriers, the carrier detail page lists your nearest hub address.
