Getting Started
Shipping your first package
A step-by-step walkthrough of creating and purchasing your first shipping label.
Step 1: Enter the ship-from address
Click Ship from the dashboard or navigate to the shipping page. Start by entering or selecting your ship-from address. If you saved a warehouse, you can select it from the dropdown. Otherwise, type an address and ShipWave will autocomplete it using Google Places for accuracy.
Step 2: Enter the ship-to address
Type the recipient's address in the destination field. ShipWave autocompletes as you type. The system automatically detects whether the address is residential or commercial, which affects carrier rates. For international shipments, select the destination country first.
Step 3: Enter package details
Enter the package weight and dimensions. You can select a saved package preset to auto-fill these values. Choose whether the package requires a signature on delivery, contains lithium batteries, or needs additional insurance coverage. For international packages, you'll also fill out a customs declaration with item descriptions, quantities, values, and HS tariff codes.
Step 4: Compare rates and select a carrier
ShipWave fetches real-time rates from all available carriers and displays them sorted by price. Each rate shows the carrier name, service level, estimated delivery date, and total cost. You can sort by price or speed. Select the rate that best fits your needs.
Step 5: Purchase and print your label
Click Buy Label to proceed to checkout. Enter your payment information (or use a saved card). After payment, your shipping label is generated instantly. Download the PDF and print it on a standard printer or thermal label printer (4×6 format supported). Affix the label to your package and drop it off or schedule a pickup.
FAQs
Can I void a label after purchasing it?
Yes. You can void unused labels from the Shipments page within the carrier's void window (typically 30 days for USPS, 24 hours for UPS/FedEx). A full refund is issued to your original payment method.
What label format is used?
Labels are generated as PDFs. You can print them on standard 8.5" × 11" paper (the label will be in the top-left quadrant) or directly on 4×6 thermal labels if you have a thermal printer.
How much can I save compared to retail rates?
ShipWave provides commercial rates up to 54% off retail carrier prices. Savings vary by carrier and service level. USPS commercial rates are typically 20-30% off, while UPS and FedEx discounts can reach 40-54% off retail.
