Creating wholesale draft orders

Create orders on behalf of wholesale customers with automatic discount application.

When to use draft orders

Draft orders are useful when you need to create an order on behalf of a wholesale customer, such as:

  • Phone or email orders from customers who don't order online
  • Custom orders with special pricing or items
  • Providing a payment link for net-terms customers
  • Orders with negotiated pricing that differs from the standard wholesale rates

How wholesale discounts are applied

When you create a draft order for a wholesale customer, ShipWave automatically applies the correct wholesale discounts based on the customer's group membership. The system evaluates the customer's group, checks for applicable pricing rules and volume tiers, and calculates the appropriate discount for each line item. The draft order shows the wholesale price alongside the retail price so you can verify the discounts.

Creating a draft order

You can create wholesale draft orders through the ShipWave API. The API accepts the Shopify customer ID and a list of line items. ShipWave resolves the customer's wholesale group, applies all applicable discounts (group default, pricing rules, volume tiers), and creates a Shopify draft order with the correct pricing. The draft order includes an invoice URL that you can send to the customer for payment.

Invoice URL

Every draft order includes a Shopify invoice URL. You can send this link to your wholesale customer so they can review the order and complete payment. The invoice page shows all line items with wholesale pricing applied. For net-terms customers, you can mark the draft order as paid and process it without requiring online payment.

FAQs

Can I override the wholesale discount on a draft order?
Draft orders apply the standard wholesale pricing based on the customer's group. If you need to override a price, you can edit the draft order in Shopify Admin after it's created to adjust individual line item prices.
Do draft orders count toward order limits?
Draft orders are subject to the same order limits (min/max quantity, min value, min weight) as regular orders. If the order doesn't meet the group's minimums, the wholesale discount may not apply.
