Testing wholesale pricing with test mode

Safely verify your wholesale configuration before rolling it out to real customers.

What is test mode?

Test mode lets you verify your wholesale pricing configuration without affecting your real wholesale customers. When test mode is enabled, ShipWave uses a special test tag instead of your real group tags. Only customers tagged with the test tag see wholesale pricing—your actual wholesale customers continue to see retail prices until you're ready to go live.

Enabling test mode

Go to Admin → Wholesale → Settings and toggle Test Mode on. You'll see a Test Tag field (default: "wholesale-test"). This is the Shopify customer tag that activates wholesale pricing during testing. Click Update to save. When test mode is active, the wholesale system only responds to the test tag—real group tags are temporarily ignored.

Setting up a test customer

Create a test customer in Shopify (or use an existing one) and add the test tag to their profile:

  1. Go to Shopify Admin → Customers.
  2. Create a new customer or select an existing one.
  3. Add the tag wholesale-test (or whatever you set as your test tag).
  4. Save the customer.

Now log into your store as this customer to see wholesale pricing in action.

Verifying pricing

While logged in as your test customer, browse your store and add items to the cart. Check that:

  • Product prices reflect the correct wholesale discount.
  • Volume tiers display correctly on product pages (if you added the theme block).
  • The cart shows discounted prices.
  • Checkout applies the wholesale discount as expected.
  • Order limits are enforced (min/max quantity, min value, min weight).
  • Product locks prevent checkout for restricted items.

If anything looks wrong, adjust your pricing rules and volume tiers, then re-sync and test again.

Going live

Once you've verified everything works correctly:

  1. Go to Admin → Wholesale → Settings.
  2. Toggle Test Mode off.
  3. Click Update.

ShipWave immediately switches from the test tag to your real group tags. Your wholesale customers will now see their group's pricing at checkout. You can remove the test tag from your test customer or leave it—it has no effect when test mode is off.

FAQs

Do I need to re-sync to Shopify after disabling test mode?
No. ShipWave automatically syncs the configuration when you toggle test mode on or off. The Shopify Function immediately starts using the correct tags.
Can I use test mode after the system is already live?
Yes. You can enable test mode at any time to test new pricing rules or volume tiers before they go live. While test mode is active, existing wholesale customers will temporarily see retail prices.
What is the default test tag?
The default test tag is "wholesale-test". You can change it to anything you want in the test mode settings. Just make sure to use the same tag on your test customer in Shopify.
