Switching from Shopify Marketplace Connect to ShipWave: Complete Guide
Move your Amazon, eBay, Walmart, and Etsy channels without deleting listings, losing reviews, or overselling during the cutover.
Why Sellers Switch
Four reasons come up over and over:
- Etsy. Marketplace Connect no longer accepts new Etsy connections. ShipWave supports Etsy as a full channel.
- TikTok Shop. Not supported by Marketplace Connect at all.
- Sync latency. 5-60 minute inventory updates vs ShipWave's real-time webhooks—the difference between overselling and not during a spike.
- Cost at scale. Marketplace Connect's $99/month cap vs ShipWave's $59/month for every channel (first channel free)—and ShipWave's discounted labels usually save more than the subscription costs.

The One Rule: Never Double-Sync a Channel
Everything else in this guide is logistics; this is the rule that prevents disasters. Each marketplace must be synced by exactly one app at a time. Two connectors pushing inventory to the same Amazon account will fight—each "correcting" the other's quantities, potentially zeroing out live listings. The migration sequence below is built around never letting both apps sync the same channel simultaneously. (Running both apps for different channels—say, Marketplace Connect for Target Plus and ShipWave for everything else—is completely fine.)
What Transfers Automatically (and What Doesn't)
Nothing you've built on the marketplaces is at risk. Listings, reviews, seller ratings, sales history, and account health all live on Amazon, eBay, Walmart, and Etsy—not inside the connector. Switching connectors never deletes a listing.
- Transfers by linking: your live marketplace listings. ShipWave matches them to Shopify variants by SKU, so consistent SKUs across Shopify and the marketplaces make migration nearly automatic.
- Needs rebuilding in ShipWave: per-channel pricing rules, listing templates, and category/attribute mappings you configured inside Marketplace Connect. Budget an hour or two per channel.
- Check before cutover: any orders currently mid-flight in Marketplace Connect—let them fully sync (order imported, tracking pushed) before disabling it.
Step-by-Step Migration
- Install ShipWave from the Shopify App Store (free) and connect your store. Your catalog syncs in automatically.
- Create your first channel in ShipWave and authorize it—Amazon, eBay, and Etsy use OAuth (you approve in the seller portal); Walmart uses API keys from Seller Center.
- Link existing listings. ShipWave matches marketplace SKUs to your Shopify variants. Review anything unmatched—usually a SKU mismatch worth fixing at the source.
- Configure buffers, floors, and pricing rules per channel (e.g., hold back 5 units on eBay; Amazon price = Shopify × 1.12, rounded to .99).
- Cut over one channel at a time: disable that marketplace's sync in Marketplace Connect first, then enable auto-sync in ShipWave. Never let both sync the same channel.
- Verify end to end on each channel: place (or wait for) one order → confirm it imports into Shopify as a paid order → ship it → confirm tracking appears on the marketplace.
- Repeat per channel, then uninstall Marketplace Connect once its last channel is cut over (or keep it solely for Target Plus).
Timing Your Cutover
- Don't migrate two weeks before Black Friday. Allow 30-60 days of normal operation before peak season.
- Cut over your lowest-volume channel first—prove the flow where mistakes are cheapest.
- Migrate mid-week, mid-morning, when marketplace order velocity is lowest for most catalogs.
- Etsy and TikTok Shop have no cutover risk at all if they're new channels—Marketplace Connect was never syncing them.
After the Switch
Two things are new compared to Marketplace Connect:
- Your marketplace orders now flow into a shipping platform. Rate-shop each order across USPS, UPS, FedEx, and DHL at up to 54% off retail, batch-print labels, and let tracking push back to the marketplace automatically.
- Returns and claims are handled in the same app—branded returns portal, automatic return labels, and carrier claims filed for you.
Most sellers find the label savings alone cover the connector subscription several times over.
